Plants and vegetation can enhance the enjoyment of your aquarium. Silk and plastic life-like plants are a low-maintenance, attractive alternative to live plants. Although live plants can add oxygen to the aquarium, they require 12-14 hours of light per day and occasionally you will need to prune, replant and fertilize them.
To create bubbles using an air stone, bubble-wand or an air powered ornament such as a diver or a treasure chest, you’ll need an air pump. You’ll also need some air line tubing, about 1/4" in diameter, to connect the air pump to the device and a check valve to prevent the water from draining from the tank when the air pump is off.
Rocks and ornaments such as caves and driftwood provide hiding places for the fish, especially for new additions to the aquarium that may be shy and a little nervous. These items are more than just decorative additions. They offer security and seclusion in your pet’s new home.
Just like other pets, fish enjoy snacks occasionally. Give them a treat of Tetra® Baby Shrimp or Tetra® Bloodworms to supplement their regular food.
Adding a decorative background to your aquarium will give the illusion of an underwater shipwreck or a beautiful coral reef. It’s an inexpensive way to add variety to your tank.
